Lounging by the Caribbean Sea offers a supreme opportunity for relaxation. While on our visit to Great Stirrup Cay, we took note of two main bar areas near the center of the island. While there are locations both onboard NCL ships and onshore at Great Stirrup Cay to purchase sunscreen, I recommend bringing some from home. Access to the beaches on Great Stirrup Cay is complimentary, and all guests should take advantage of this! The water is a beautiful crystal-clear turquoise color, and warmer than a swimming pool!

What activities are offered at Great Stirrup Cay?
Head to any bar on the island and you can get a drink just like you would on the ship. For additional images, visit the Destinations tab of the Multimedia Library. Cabanas on the Cay book up fairly quickly, several months in advance of a cruise, so early booking is strongly recommended. You can make your reservation online, booking it as a shore excursion.

These boats give you a great unobstructed view of the ship for photos, but there are also photo opportunities on the island. Without a doubt the most popular activity is lounging beachside, soaking up some sun or playing in the water. And whether money is no object or you want to watch your budget, there is no shortage of ways to spend your day.
Here's everything you need to know about the villas on Great Stirrup Cay
They are hard to see… having polarized sunglasses can help cut through the glare in the water. Head to the beach closest to the ship and you’ll find a viewing platform that you can climb to take a photo. As well, the Bacardi Bar in the middle of Great Stirrup Cay has an area that can give you a great view of the ship and the island’s coastline. Lagoon Villas start at $949 and accommodate eight guests, with up to two additional guests charged at $49 each. They are slightly larger than the Ocean Villas and are located on the lagoon. If you’re really looking to relax in comfort on your Great Stirrup Cay beach day, you can rent a private cabana or villa for the day.
‘Be on Time!’: Cruisers Show Little Sympathy For NCL Passengers Who Missed Ship
Beach wheelchairs with massive inflatable tires are available for you to use for free. We will also mention that Great Stirrup Cay didn’t feel particularly accessible otherwise as there are lots of spots that require walking through sand. With the beach wheelchair, however, it should be much easier to navigate. If you’ve been cruise shopping, then you’ve likely seen ads for Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay. CocoCay is literally the next island over and you can see it right from the ship.
With the incredible expansion of Great Stirrup Cay, you will be able to take relaxing to another level. Unwind at an exclusive, private retreat at Silver Cove where your luxurious villa awaits. If you’re looking for a little time to relax, bring a book with you ashore.
Having it work on Great Stirrup Cay means you are better able to get your money’s worth. On your walk over to the beaches, you will have noticed some of the over-the-water swings, I recommend taking any photos in the morning when the island is still relatively quiet. This island has very clean beaches, and offers plenty of areas to swim and enjoy the crystal-clear water. Great Stirrup Cay is not short of complimentary food options for NCL guests. There are three complimentary food locations on the island, Jumbey Beach Grill, Abaco Taco, and Tropic Like Its Hot.

The beach is completely free to enjoy, including thousands of lounge chairs available for you to use. Whether you want to work on your tan, play on the beach, swim in the water, or find a shady spot under a palm tree, it’s all here for you to enjoy the paradise. The cheapest cabana on Great Stirrup Cay is the Classic Cabana, and it is priced from $399. This cabana accommodates up to six guests, with up to two additional guests charged at $25 each. It’s an open-air shelter with comfortable indoor/outdoor seating and comes with four complimentary floating mats.
Remember when you’re packing your beach bag to double-check that you’ve packed everything you’ll need for the day. Returning to the ship and tendering back to the island likely won’t be practical. If you or one of your cruising group is unable to walk at all, tendering to the island might not be possible. NCL, like many other cruise lines, reserves the right to deny boarding of their tenders to guests who can’t enter or exit the boat on foot.
One other great spot is the tender that takes you back and forth from the ship. This gives you fantastic views of the ship up close from the water with no obstructed views. It’s the best chance to get that perfect photo in front of your ship.
This is for laid-back folks looking for a relaxing tour around the beautiful island waters of the Berry Islands aboard a modern double-decker catamaran. You get the chance to feed and interact with these porkers and have a photo op before relaxing with a drink on the observation deck and watching the fun. Prices start at $105 for adults and $85 for children aged 6 and above. After a brief orientation your guide will help you into a 2-person kayak.
Even the people working at the straw market don’t live here—they take the ferry over from nearby Great Harbour Cay. If it’s been a few years since you’ve visited the private island, you’ll be amazed at how much it’s changed while still retaining its charm. Rent Your Own Private CabanaIf you want to relax in style, then check out one of the open-air cabanas. These spots are great for families as they are open, but also have a roof so that you can get some shade (and kids don’t spend the entire day in the sun).
Bertram’s Cove Beach, the main beach on the island, is the largest and closest to the tender dock. Since it’s so easily accessible, it’s always the most crowded beach as well. If you don’t mind being a little farther away from most amenities, keep walking and you’ll find Cabana Beach and then Fiesta Beach. Jumbey Beach Grill is the largest dining venue, offering barbecue-style food in a buffet setting. Hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, and jerk chicken are popular, along with pizza, salads, and corn-on-the-cob. Norwegian has a small staff that stays on the island, but there are no permanent residents.
The middle beach, known as Cabana Beach, has private cabanas for rent on a raised, hilly area on the beach. However, anyone can relax on the sand or use the free beach chairs available. Since it’s an extension of Bertram’s Beach, you can expect the same features and facilities.
