Google working on fix for Home and Chromecast Wi-Fi issues

If you have not updated the app for a while, this could cause problems when you try to connect a Google Home or Nest to Wi-Fi. We have explained the reset procedure for different Home devices. There are two ways to restart your mini device that are mentioned below.

If Google Home used to connect to Wi-Fi just fine but you recently changed the Wi-Fi password, you’ll need to reconfigure Google Home so you can update the password. To do that, you first need to disconnect its current settings and start fresh. To check, go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play store and search the Home app or Nest app. The app page should tell you if there’s an update you can install. Initially, the issue, reported in Google’s product forums, seemed to be limited to the Google Home Max smart speaker and the TP-Link Archer C7 router.

Fixing a Google Home or Nest That's Not Connecting to Wi-Fi

The only way to fix it is by rebooting the Wi-Fi router. To fix your Google Nest Mini disconnecting from WiFi, check the hardware for any damages or wear over time and restart both the hardware and software. If the issue still persists, check for any firmware updates and try connecting to a 2.4GHz WiFi signal. If everything else fails, factory reset the Google Nest Mini. If this is the case, and it seems to be the accepted explanation, I don't see how unplugging your chromecast or Home is going to solve anything. The android apps are still going to search your network for devices to cast to.

Try the classics like rebooting the Nest Mini and checking the volume levels to make sure nothing obvious is wrong. If this isn’t working, double-check that you haven’t disabled the mic itself. There’s a mic switch on the Nest Mini that will completely shut off the mic for privacy reasons, and if it has been turned off accidentally, this is the cause of your problem. Sometimes, Google Assistant needs to be reminded that all your Nest devices are present, especially if you introduce a new device in your home. Try saying, “OK Google, sync my devices,” and see if this helps get everything in order.

This tends to happen most often if your Mini is on an uneven surface. Make sure the device is positioned firmly on an even surface and not subject to any small vibrations. If everything seems fine, take a look at where the Nest Mini is positioned. Airflow from nearby vents, sounds from other speakers, signals from appliances like microwaves, and many other environmental factors could be causing interference. Try moving it to a more quiet area and see if this helps as well. Many different problems can cause an unresponsive Nest Mini.
